This past Friday I went to evensong at Westminster Abbey. It really was awe inspiring to be in a magnificent cathedral hearing a service in a church that his been so important to history and to the history of the church. I think it was when I looked up to see the height of the ceiling was when I was most taken. Oh yeah, I got into trouble taking this picture, which I felt really bad about.
As beautiful as Westminster Abbey is, I find St Paul’s even more of a gem. I highly recommend you tour St. Paul’s before you leave London. Maybe not as many famous people buried in St. Paul’s, but what a marvelous piece of architecture it is. Christopher Wren was truly a genius. He also did some buildings in the US, including a few at Peter Buffington’s alma mater, William and Mary.
ReplyDeleteAnd make sure you walk all the way up to the top of the dome. As good as any view of London you will get, and a lot cheaper than getting a view of the city from the London Eye.
Hey John,
ReplyDeleteI saw a building designed by Christopher Wren in Oxford today!
